Citizens in Policing Workshop, 21st March 2019

Dr Laura Knight, Dr Matt Callender and Dr Iain Britton of the University of Northampton have been developing world-leading research on the best use of citizens in policing. To help share their findings to date a free workshop is being hosted at the Innovation Centre, at the University of Northampton 11am – 1pm on Thursday 21st March 2019. This event will help forces to make best of volunteering potential so do come along!

The research is informed by working closely with regional forces. Dr Iain Britton has been working with the Notinghamshire Citizens in Policing team, to explore the use of Special Constables in specialist roles. Dr Matt Callender is running the national evaluation of the Mini Police programme and is conducting fieldwork on that in Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire. The team are also working with Employer-Supported Policing, particularly in Lincolnshire.

Additionally, the team have just won ESRC funding to compare volunteering in policing models in England and wales with Japan. Japanese colleagues will be arriving in the UK in June and anyone interested in getting involved in that international comparative work is encouraged to step forward!
