EMPAC Symposium on Human Trafficking at Loughborough University

EMPAC is proud to announce a key event, supported by the Police Knowledge Fund, on a critical issue for policing.

Human Trafficking in the UK: Challenges and Implications for Policing is a free event, to be held at Loughborough University on January 20th from 9:00am until  3:30pm. Key note contributors include EMPAC Fellows, the National Crime Agency and the Gangmasters Licensing Agency.

 

This event consists of talks and workshop activities addressing human trafficking in the UK from the policing perspective. The programme is tailored both for police representatives and those working with the police. The keynote talks will present issues of human trafficking from a variety of perspectives, while the breakout activities in the afternoon will aim to support networking and collaboration in the future.

 

The keynote presentations include:

 

·        Sarah di Giglio from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) presenting on ‘Human trafficking as a global and national issue’

 

·        Mark Heath from the Gangmasters Licensing Authority presenting on ‘Labour exploitation in UK supply chains’

 

·        PC Amy Rutland from Leicestershire Police presenting on ‘The Interactions between Police and NGOs regarding Modern Slavery’

 

·        Steffan Williams from the National Crime Agency’s Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Unit (MSHTU) presenting the UK perspective

 

·        Matej Blazek, James Esson and Darren Smith from Loughborough University and Newcastle University presenting on ‘Human trafficking between Eastern Europe and the United Kingdom’

 

The event will be hosted in the Stewart Mason Building 0.02, Loughborough University LE11 3TU.
