Police Engagement with Local Communities

Summary

Police forces often communicate with local citizens and involve them in deciding on responses to social problems within their neighbourhoods. This project will help police to identify what methods of communication can effectively reach individuals living within specific neighbourhoods and communities. It will develop a web-based tool to help forces tailor communications for each neighbourhood and for different local communities.

Research Questions

  • Which forms of community engagement work best and in what context?

Methodology

This project will draw upon individual, household and area characteristics using a variety of existing data sources. It will use this data to develop a web-based classification tool that we will then look to pilot with forces in the East Midlands.

This project is led by Dr James Hunter and Matt Ashby.
