Research Café, 6th February 2020

EMPAC is pleased to be able to invite you to a Research Café, generously hosted by Leicestershire Police, to join up academic researchers with front-line policing. Get it in your diary now!

The Research Café is an opportunity for research postgraduates as well as researchers to get together and talk about their research in an informal setting. It aims to provide an informal environment where researchers can network, share ideas with strategic leads and even hone their presentation skills.

It’s all about breaking down any barriers people may feel are in the way of professional practice and academic research working together for mutual benefit. This includes being able to have informal chats about potential research and explore opportunities. The College of Policing’s National Police Library and the What Works Centre will also be in attendance – who offer lots of support in all types of research and are a brilliant resource for anyone setting off to develop policing practice. Karin Rogers of the What Works Centre said, “Our Police Library and College What Works team will be on hand to offer guidance and support and to discuss your research ideas.  Please come along and have a chat with us”.

Policing professionals are encouraged to come along to develop a deeper understanding of the research that is available to Force and also the depth of knowledge of researchers in this particular field. Chief Inspector Dan Pedley of Leicestershire Police said, “this is a fantastic opportunity for police colleagues to discuss how academic research can inform policing activity and to build relationships with each other that can make a real difference to our communities   – I’d encourage operational as well as senior colleagues to come along.”

Academic researchers are encouraged to come along to chat with policing professionals and showcase research they have already done or research plans for the future.

Not that you’d need any more encouragement to come along to such a great event – but there’ll also be free refreshments. See you there!
